New service for renal patients

Great news for patients going to Raigmore for renal dialysis treatment.

NHS Highland and Highland Council have commissioned WIN to provide this service in our area. The clinic at Raigmore will organise our drivers to take and collect patients, some of them going in as much as 3 times a week.

Chair Simon Noble said “we’re delighted to have been chosen to do this in our area. We see it as an important endorsement of our friendly, flexible approach and very much hope it could lead to more partnerships with NHS clinics.”

Manager Jon Wartnaby agreed and added “we have recruited three new part-time drivers to ensure we provide a reliable service to patients. Recruiting paid drivers also means that we can aim to carry more passengers on our Dial a Bus and volunteer car services.”

WINs dial a bus and volunteer car scheme continue to be ready to take you pretty much anywhere between Elgin, Inverness and Dingwall. Just phone 07716 214777 and book.

First Highland charity accredited as paying the Real Living Pension

WIN is now accredited as the first organisation in the Highlands to offer its staff the Real Living Pension. WIN now pays in substantially more into employees pension pot than the minimum required by law. This is a great boost to staff conditions of service and alongside our commitment to paying the Real Living Wage makes us an attractive employer to new staff as we grow.

The Saddest News

We are so saddened to let you know of the sudden death of our trustee and much loved volunteer driver Chris Lilley. Chris died suddenly quite unexpectedly just days before Christmas. He was an enthusiastic volunteer with WIN from the start, bringing with him lots of experience from his earlier role as a trustee with a car scheme in Cumbria. His favourite job was driving our customers to Inverness and beyond for medical appointments or for shopping.

Chris’ funeral will be at 10 am on Monday 15th January at Inverness crematorium. No mourning attire.

We miss him and wish all his family and friends our deepest condolences.

We’re still looking for a part -time driver

3 candidates and all had to drop out, for health or family health reasons (and one got a job elsewhere!). So, if you enjoy driving and like helping people, you could be driving one of our electric, wheelchair accessible vehicles on the Dial-a-Bus service.

Every day is different; it could be full-on busy or we could be quiet. You will have a laugh and you might cry a bit, but you will be helping people to live their lives. Typically you’ll be taking people to medical appointments, shopping or to meet their friends making sure they stay connected. If you enjoy meeting and helping people and driving around the beautiful Scottish countryside this could be the job for you.
